Pullman Brown returns to Port Haven with a bullet hole in the Brown Hound, half a shipment of antique furniture resting at the bottom of the Manthari Strait, and a promise that his next month will be quiet.

Then a legendary aircraft drifts in from the outer islands.

The battered seaplane is not the long-lost Blue Wanderer, as local pilots first believe, but the Azure Jackdawan aircraft missing for decades and carrying evidence tied to the Wanderer’s final flight. Hidden beneath its ruined instrument panel, Pullman finds a strange circular device whose inner light points somewhere beyond magnetic north.

Historical aviation scholar Kessandra Trenfell identifies it as an Ancient Skyfaring Locator, a relic from a forgotten civilization that once operated a network of installations across the Lower Equator Belt. Its strongest signal points toward the Stormcast Reaches, a permanent storm system no pilot enters safely. Somewhere inside waits the Sky Engine, a structure powerful enough to have created the storms concealing it.

The Locator is only one piece of the activation sequence.

Pirate commander Vasker Rimeholt has spent years gathering the others. His disciplined fleet possesses sections of a Sky Anchor Core, and he is preparing to enter the Reaches during a narrow atmospheric window. He believes the Engine will give him control of the skies. If he attempts the sequence with incomplete components, he may instead destabilize the entire region.

Rimeholt is not the only person searching. The elusive Suaste once owned the Locator and still has agents operating throughout the islands. Russell Gridley is watching from the edges. Someone inside Rimeholt’s organization is quietly leaving maps and messages for Pullman. And the Blue Wanderer‘s disappearance is beginning to look less like a ghost story than an unfinished warning.

With Tony Vincent beside him, former security contractor Zarina Khan watching every angle, Kessandra decoding the records, silent mechanic Ben Worwood keeping the Brown Hound airborne, and Sticky Bob Morgan and Goofy the parrot supporting an information network no sensible person could explain, Pullman follows the Locator east.

Their route carries them through hidden bases, forgotten stations, aerial ambushes, and the shattered weather of the Stormcast Reaches. To stop Rimeholt, Pullman must fly an aging seaplane into a storm engineered by a civilization older than recorded aviation, determine which relics belong together, and trust that the Brown Hound knows more about the path ahead than any modern aircraft should.

What waits inside the Reaches is not merely a weapon.

The Sky Engine is part of a passage network built by ancient sky-fliers. The Blue Wanderer reached it decades earlier, and one of its pilots survived long enough to scatter instructions across aircraft, maps, hidden notes, and Port Haven itself. Rimeholt’s failed activation may not open the passage correctly, but it could awaken everything surrounding it.

Pullman and his companions may prevent the immediate disaster. They cannot stop the larger sequence from beginning.
