Grayson grew up above Earth, surrounded by orbital industry, conversational systems, and a civilization that had already automated most of the work humans once called necessary.

On the day he becomes an adult, his parents give him a choice by taking one away. They send him toward the damaged planet below with a descent package, an AI named Egg, enough equipment to build a modern settlement, and a biological design system capable of turning useful traits into living solutions.

His first assignment is ecological restoration. He must establish shelter, power, food, water, and communication before he can begin repairing the world around him. Carbon-sequestering plants, resilient corals, plastic-eating organisms, fairy moths, storm-warden beetles, consumption trees, and their animal partners are more than experiments. Each one becomes a bet made with real matter, real communities, and a contribution economy that records who helped, who failed, and who has to live with the result.

The system can model almost anything. It cannot choose what becomes physical without an accountable human request. That boundary matters when living systems begin to adapt beyond their specificationsand when every successful design creates new dependencies.

Grayson came to Earth expecting a project. He finds an ecology that can answer back.
